WordPress Under Attack

WordPress Under Attack

The threat is real ladies and gentlemen WordPress is Under Attack as well as many banking sites. If you want to protect yourself then this is the article for you to read. People that monitor the security of internet activity have detected and ongoing attack on a huge number of computers on the internet that run WordPress content management systems. These people are unknown and use more than 90 million ip addresses for a brute force attack against these systems. It is important that you get familiar with what these people are trying to do so I will do my best to explain it here in common language.

DDOS Attack

DDOS stands for “distributed denial of service” this happens when there are millions of people on your site at one time. What they do is flood your website is unwanted visitors basically to eat up all your bandwidth and cpu so that it renders your website useless to the real people that are looking at your website for genuine content. That is about it in a nutshell but if you want to read more on Denial of service attacks follow the link.

According to Matthew Prince, CEO of CloudFlare,

“These larger machines can cause much more damage in DDoS [distributed denial-of-service] attacks because the servers have large network connections and are capable of generating significant amounts of traffic.”

Only cool people share!

Bottom Line What you can do to protect yourself!

1. Limit your log in attempts Limit Login Attempt

2. Update your password ASAP using at least 8 characters upper and lowercase numbers and special characters  !@#$

3. If your log in name is “admin” or “Admin” change it right away!

4. Consider installing “Better WP Security” plug in.

5. Get on the CloudFlare  service they automatically block brute force attempts to log into your dashboard.

NOTE: For any of my clients that want me to take care of this for them just shoot me an email and I will get on it right away!

Share this post with all your friends and family, business partners or anyone you can think of so we can stop these horrible horrible people from infecting the internet as a whole.

Thanks
