Q. What is Web Development Strategy?

It is not enough to just have a website anymore these days. You have to have a strategy implemented to get the best results that you can from a website. The first thing that you will have to think about is the name of you url and how to pick a good name that people are searching for. The next task in your strategy should be to pick a good server that will be able to handle your website visitors and the content that you serve on your website. The third thing that you need to choose is a CMS or content management system that will help you prepare your content for the web. Yet there is a lot more to web development strategy than this. These are just the basics to get you started.

Q.  What are the responsibilities of a web developer?

A. A web developer is responsible for whatever is written in your contract or proposal. Think of a web developer like a contractor to build your building or store. They will lay the foundation, build the walls, roof and ceiling. Decorate the walls any way that you need them too. The floor they install will have to handle the traffic that you get in your store. You will probably have to have plenty of space so that your visitors are not crowded and be able to get to the products on your shelves. As your business grows your need for a bigger building will grow as well. That is why most businesses start out with a small server and then increase from there.

If you tell a web developer that you only have a budget of $1500 then they will write you up a proposal based upon that budget. One good practice that I have implemented is that I will write down a list of tasks based upon the clients needs and give them the opportunity to take out certain parts to match their budget.

Q. What are your responsibilities as the business owner or webmaster?

A. You as the business owner need to realize that your website is not part of your business it is your business online. The web developer responsibility ends when your website is set up and ready for traffic according to your budget and style that you gave to the web developer to set up. If there are more cosmetic changes that you want to see then you can work closely with your web developer to implement those changes. I find that most people that are effective business owners are also effective communicators. If you fail to communicate with your web developer and try to leave them guessing about what you want then your experience is not going to be a very good one.

Q. What is the difference of a Web Developer and an SEO agency?

A. It should be noted that just because you have a web developer does not mean that they are good at search engine optimization strategy. Their job is like that of a contractor while an SEO agencies job is that of marketing and advertising. An SEO agency, if they are worth their salt are not cheap at all. They will have to get into your business, learn everything about it and then create SERP strategies within the bounds of policies to get you indexed in several places on the internet. They will start with the keyword phrases that is important for your business to rank for. They will not necessarily be interested in the name of your business but they will be interested in the products or services that you offer. Remember there is no such thing as an SEO package that you can buy. SEO and SERP strategy is hard work. The only way you would be able to buy your way to the top is if you are a very wealthy person that has thousands of dollars every month to spend on advertising and marketing.

Q. Can I learn about web development strategy myself and implement it?

A. Having and owning a business is not easy task and it is not cheap if you want to offer quality information. You can learn to do it yourself and I find this to be the most effective means. No doubt there is a lot when it comes to web development strategy and the methods that you have to implement to get indexed.
